Homestead has been my home for five years. I opted for a ground-level, one-bedroom unit, and loved it. From my window, I had a direct view of a small pond with fountain. Having heat and covered parking included in the rent were huge perks in the winter. The maintenance and office staff were attentive. I chose Homestead because I was near enough to campus to not have to worry about long commutes in the winter, but far enough way that I couldn’t see/hear it out my window. Being on the bus line... also gave me the option of not having to pay for campus parking permits (nor having to circle campus lots looking for a spot). It really has been a great place to live while in grad school.

I love my house, Homestead. This is quite place and naturally friendly. We have good neighbors.
Especially, heating is free, so we don't have to pay heavy gas fee in winter! I was from Hawaii, so I hate cold lol. Also, we have fitness center, valley ball court. Furthermore, managers are incredibley kind. I alway thank for them.
One of the reasons I love my house is the location. Near by Meijer, Eastwood mall. I alway watch movies in Eastwood mall. I takes just 5min. I strongly recommend my... house!

So, when you move to East Lansing (assuming you are/going to attend MSU), nobody tells you that DTN owns the majority of the properties in the area. That being said, the management systems are not personal, they treat people like numbers, and have people in an out of the offices all the time. Good, quiet locations are a hit or miss. If you are a grad student like myself, you value quiet, and depending on the "popular" complex for the year, you could end up with anyone. When I came apartment... shopping, I purposely looked for something non-DTN and found Homestead Apts. It's right on the bus line, and pushed back far enough so people can't wander into it - but the leasing office is still visible from the street. The apartments are nice and spacious, and the property managers really work with you and know everyone personally. When my student refund check was late getting in, they gave me extra time (a courtesy for being consistently punctual) to get it in. They know my car, and look out for my packages. I get free heat in the winter, since they cover gas, water and sewage. You also get covered parking.
The only thing I dont like about my place (I love it) is that I live on the ground floor, so more bugs than a second or third level. Also, the air conditioners are older, as well as the stove. They work perfectly fine, but how much could you really ask to pay? My rent is super affordable for the space and I've convinced 2 of my classmates to sign leases here for this school year. I will be here until I graduate.

The place is quiet and is very close to amenities. Good connectivity with Cata bus services as well to MSU. Close to the Northern tier trail which is great for walking/jogging.
Appartment itself is spacious and has a balcony as well. Kitchen appliances are little old but work.
Service here is prompt and have nothing to complain about.
